Getting more advanced
Now that you have learnt the skill of one point perspective you are able to move onwards to create more advanced drawings. This page will help you develop a fresh understanding and allow you to practice the new skill of:
TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE
Examples:
One Point Perspective allows us to gain a 3D view from the front of an object.
But when we are looking at a side view we must change to Two Point Perspective. To the side we can see the change between One and Two Point Perspective. Can you identify any Two Point Perspective round your school or classroom? |
Step by step approach to using Two Point Perspective for a street
STEP 1
Create two dots on your page one on the left hand side and one on the right, these will become your Vanishing Points. Next you will want to mark on the points for the top and bottom of the corner object (probably a building) and then draw with a ruler a straight line down the middle between both points. Next place a dot below the bottom of the object to create the pavement. Now with a light and ruled pencil line create your guide lines from the dots you have made to the Vanishing Points.
Step 2
You will want to start by creating the corner object/building. This should be done by a ruler and then you will decide how far from the corner you want to make the building. Darken your lines and make them clear to see.
Step 3
Now that you have a corner building sorted, you will draw the lines for the other buildings first by drawing the vertical lines, followed by the guide lines leading to the Vanishing Points. By making sure you add the lines correctly you will have your drawing looking very professional.
Step 4
Now that the buildings are complete you can add the doorways and windows to the drawing to complete the buildings.
Advanced Steps
Now that you have created your buildings you can get really adventurous and try adding driveways and pavements to make the drawing look more realistic.
REAL LIFE TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE
Next time you are turning the corner of a street just stop in the middle of the road and don't pay attention to the traffic...NO PAY ATTENTION TO THE TRAFFIC THAT IS A SPEEDING CAR WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY? Anyhow whilst you are at the corner of the two streets look at the last point that joins the two and you will notice that there is TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE in real life.
Activity 1
Below are a series of images that all display TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE. Your activity is to try to the best of you ability and create a drawing similar to one of the photographs provided. You can choose the photos I have given you or you can try and create a drawing like the one in the previous example.
Advanced Extension Activity
Now that you have practiced Two Point Perspective, and are ready to try and increase your skill level attempt to write your name in 3D using the two Vanishing Points. This technique will take time to get right but an example has been shown for you.
Homework
Using all the techniques shown try your hand at making a TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE house. This should challenge you different examples have been included as well as a tutorial video.
Time to Check your learning. From this page you should now know how to use Two Vanishing Point and be aware of how to draw a simple object like a box/cube in Two Point Perspective. You should have completed the required activities and be ready for the next stage.
